We all live our lives working, meeting, eating, drinking, playing and relaxing. Activities that demand a lot from the available space around us and put a lot of pressure on sustainable solutions. And we all know space is scarce.

We need to rethink the way we develop the city around us and how we make the best use of all available space. We need to transform small and big buildings into liveable places, close to local communities and closer to nature than we did before. Because we all know space is valuable. It is time to make a smarter, better use of the scarce space and buildings we use, and (re)develop them. To extract more value for everyone. To enjoy life and make the world a better place.

Lack of real involvement of local communities

People want to be involved these days. Involved in the places where the live and choose to stay, for the many hours of every day. Alone and with their families, friends and colleagues. We see the need to closely partnering with community groups and stakeholders.

We believe that places need to bring people together and let communities flourish. With mutually beneficial development and exploitation models, all stakeholders will benefit from the vibrant places to be created. Instead of having one winner taking it all.

Who is behind uppr?

The team behind uppr is a group of entrepreneurs who have been doing business together successfully for more than 20 years. From Buildings that Matter - a wholly owned subsidiary of Powered by Meaning Group - we build uppr's brand and locations. From a team of five experienced entrepreneurs, with a team of specialists, led by Han Hendriks and Ivar Davids.

Which locations does uppr already have?

In 2005 we developed Villa Beukendael in Baarn, in 2016 we opened the Social Impact Factory in Utrecht, in 2018 the circular hotspot C-Bèta and in 2021 Buitenplaats Maartensdijk. In the period 2022 - 2025, the opening of large locations from 1,000 m2 to 3,500 m2 is planned in the cities of Eindhoven, Amsterdam and The Hague. In 2022 we will bring uppr online and continue to build a large network of circular hotspots.

Do you mix owning and operating fixed real estate?

Indeed, think of us as “exploitation developers”. We believe in exploitation that positively contributes to the value for the neighbourhood and that of the building itself. We inextricably connect these two worlds, thereby bypassing the 'split incentive'. We have a unique model for this, in which we connect the interests of the PropCo and the OpCo.

From which ticket can I participate?

You can invest via the contribution of (a portfolio of) real estate for which you are looking for a new exploitation. We are also open to partners who want to help realize multiple locations and operations with a serious investment. Help build uppr places that you can be proud of yourself!

What does Buildings that Matter do?

We bring buildings back to life. We do this by circular renovation or construction of the building. But more importantly: by allowing the right group of residents and users of the location to work together. Buildings are not just a roof over your head, but an environment in which people come together to have fun, to do business and to ensure a beautiful and pleasant living environment.
